The Department of Economics was established in Modern College, Shivajinagar in the year 1970. Economics as a special subject for BA was introduced in the year 1973. Prof. M.S.Mahajan was the first Head of the Department of Economics. Under his guidance the department made a good progress and organ
ized several academic programmes. Prof. Mahajan is well known author of several text books in Economics. He has written more than 50 text books for Under Graduate and Post Graduate students. He is also an acknowledged speaker on current issues in Economics. He held important positions in Pune University. He was chairman BOS in Economics and Banking, Member of Academic Council and also Director, Students Welfare, Pune University. His valuable contribution to the department of Economics is highly appreciated. |

Dr. AL Pathre was a next Head of the Department. During his headship many State level and National level seminars were held on a subject like Banking Technology, Entrepreneurship, Capital Market, etc. Recently, he presented his research paper at an International Conference in Oxford University. Many eminent persons have been invited in the college for delivering guest lectures and to guide the students. Mrs. V.S. Kulkarni worked as a HOD till December 2007.
Dr. M.M. Satam was appointed as Head of the Department w.e.f. January 2008. |
