The need for the hour is excellence in every field of operation,
and particularly "Information Technology". Realizing
this need, the Computer Science Department, Modern College,
Pune-05 is engaged in molding tomorrow's information and communication
technologists today.
Our students are in the field of Computer
Science and Applications. Their entry for the course is on
the basis of merit. At the undergraduate level their performance
at HSC (Science) with mathematics as compulsory subject is
the criteria for the admission. At the postgraduate level
their performance at the B.Sc. (Computer Science) degree and
performance of the entrance examination is the criterion for
the admission for the M.Sc. (Computer Science) course and
MCA (Under Science Faculty).
We are proud that the student opt our centre with highest
priority. As a result, the students of Modern College, Shivaji
Nagar, Pune-5 are at the forefront of the IT field. During
their graduate and postgraduate studies they undertake the
projects which are relevant to the current industrial needs.
These projects have helped students to apply their theoretical
knowledge to the real life situation.
Through practical demonstrations, Guest Lectures, Group Discussions
etc, we bring the latest in computer technology to our students.
Co-curricular activities sharpen their minds and other skills.
We have a dedicated team of teachers, experts and well equipped
laboratories. The young and highly qualified team of faculty
members spare no efforts to keep the students well informed
and in updating their knowledge. The students are also reciprocating
by their high achievements in academic performance.
A large
number of students are getting excellent placements in India
and abroad. Every year several students are also selected
in reputed foreign universities for higher studies. Various
educational authorities have noted the achievements of reputation
of the college. The Government of Maharashtra and University
of Pune have recently accorded sanction to increase the intake
capacity of M.Sc. (Computer Science) Course and MCA. College
has started MCA (Under Science Faculty) programme from the
academic year 2003-04. There is overwhelming response from
the students to secure admission to the courses offered by
department. |

Workshops |

This year the Department had organized a One Day Workshop
on Framing of S.Y.B.Sc. (Computer Science) Syllabus on 17th
December 2008. Workshop was inaugurated by H'ble Dean Dr. V.
B. Gaikwad, Prof. Arun Gangarde (Chairman, Board of Studies
in Computer Science), Dr. A. K. Pande, Prof. P. S. Chirputkar
(Chairman, LMC) Dr. R. S. Zunjarrao (Principal), Prof. A. G.
Gosavi (Visitor) were present for the function. All members
of Board of Studies in Computer Science of Pune University had
participated in the workshop. There were 85 participants from
different colleges who had actively participated in this workshop.
Prof. Mrs. Madhuri Ghanekar worked as co-ordinator for the same.
All teaching and non-teaching staff members took active participation
in the smooth conduction of the workshop. This workshop was
arranged under Quality Improvement Programme of University of
Pune. We are also thankful to the college administration for
providing us necessary support and co-operation to conduct the
workshop. |

SEMINARS |

This year the Department had organized a Seminar Series by
inviting eminent personalities from the field of IT. Prof. Mrs.
Manisha Suryawanshi worked as co-ordinator for the same. This
activity proved beneficial to the students as well as to the
staff members and helped in establishing college and industry
relationship. All teaching and non-teaching staff members took
active participation in the smooth conduction of the seminar
series. This seminar series was arranged under Quality Improvement
Programme of University of Pune. We are also thankful to the
college administration for providing us necessary support in
this regard. |

of practical course Booklet of F.Y.B.Sc. (Computer Science).
The booklet is published by University of Pune at the hands
of H'ble Dr. Narendra Jadhav Vice Chancellor, Pune University
and H'ble Dr. V. B. Gaikwad, Dean, Science Faculty, University
of Pune.
- Prof. Mrs. Shilpa Dange completed M.Phil degree from
Bharati Vidyapeeth , Pune
- Prof. Mrs. M. S. Suryawanshi, Prof. A. V. Sathe, Prof.
Anjali Sardesai, Prof. Kalyani Salla, Prof. Mrs. Radha Khedekar,
Prof. Mrs. Pallavi Thakar had attended workshop organized
by Department of Computer Science, Fergusson College, Pune
on the subject "Revision of MCA Syllabus"
- Prof. A. V. Sathe had attended workshop on Cyber Law
and Security organized by Modern College, Ganeshkhind, Pune
-53.

Inter College Competitions organized: |

The Department had organized Best Programmer Award Competition.
Prof. Mrs. Ghanekar M. S. worked as a chairperson for this event.
Mr. Jadhav Dnyaneshwar from F.Y.B.Sc.(Computer Science) was
awarded Best Programmer Award of the Year. All the teaching
staff and non- teaching staff members of the department helped
to conduct activity smoothly. |

- Past students have supported in placement of current
batch students in the reputed IT industries and in offering
training programmes.
- Project guidance is made available from alumni to the
students by means of lectures, project guidance & counseling
sessions.
- Group Discussion and Seminars: Group discussion and seminar
sessions of past students are arranged on every Saturday
on different topics.

- Students took lead in organizing Science Exhibition/
Poster Competition and participated in various intercollegiate
events. Students secured prizes in the various events. Modern
College has secured Champions Trophy in an event Interface
- 2009 organized by Modern College, Ganeshkhind, Pune-53.
- Prof. Ms. Shilpa Dange, Prof. Mrs. Anjali Dardesai, Prof.
Mrs. Radha Khedekar, Prof. Mrs. Sangeeta Raut promoted students
to participate in the various intercollegiate events.
- S.Y. B.Sc. (Computer Science) Class secured First Prize
in the Annual Social Gathering (2008-09) of the college.

Placement Service provided to the students: |

Department of Computer Science runs placement activity
through a Placement Cell for Post-Graduate Students and
Under-Graduate Students. This year Prof. Mrs. Manisha Suryawanshi
worked as a Placement Co-ordinator for the placement activity
under her able guidance 96% of students from the Post-Graduation
Wing (M.Sc. Computer Science, MCA) were placed in reputed
organizations. All teaching and non-teaching staff members
of the Department provided necessary support in smooth conduction
of this activity. Under Graduate students are also placed
in reputed software companies such as Patni, IBM, Wipro,
etc. |

- Shri. Balasaheb B. Dalvi awarded "Best Non Teaching
Employee Award" of Progressive Education Society on
the occasion of Late Shankarraoji Kanitkar Day Function.
- Staff members had taken active participation in the admission
process of F.Y.B.Sc.(Computer Science), MCA & M.Sc.(Computer
Science) courses.
- A committee was constituted for conducting M.Sc. (Computer
Science) & MCA entrance Examination 2008. Dr. G.R. Ekbote
(Chairman, P.E. Society) Prof. P. S. Chirputkar (Chairman,
LMC), Dr. A. K. Pande (Chairman, LMC) Principal A. G. Gosavi
(Chairman of the Committee) Dr. Sulbha Deuskar (Vice Principal,
PG Wing) provided us necessary guidance & administrative
support in organizing the entrance examination smoothly.
- Mr. Samir Badmanji had undertaken maintenance work of
the computers & allied peripherals of the college.
- A Voters on-line registration programme was arranged
on 4th March 2009 in association with "Daily Indian
Express" and "Jagore/Jangraha" NGO. There
was good response for the registration. This activity was
conducted on same day all over India and around 200 student
voters registered their name from our college centre.
