Educational Trip:

 

 Visit to Industrial Exhibition on 10th January, 2005 at Mahatma Phule Agricultural College Ground, Pune on the subject “Globalization and its Impact on Indian Economy”. Planning Forum activities The following activities were carried out in the academic year 2004-05:

  • On 3rd September,2004 the forum was inaugurated at the hands of Mr. D.V. Lonkar, International Trade Consultant. He spoke on “Prospects of Agro-exports of India”.
  • On 9th September,2004 Mr. Ramesh Babu, Manager ICICI guided our students on              “ Career in Banking Industry”.
  • On 6th October,2004 we conducted the 39th Seth Walchand Hirachand Elocution competition. Miss.Hema Punjabi of TY B.Sc got first prize along with a cash prize of Rs. 3000/
  • On 10th January 2005, a visit to an Industrial Exhibition held at Mahatma Phule Agricultural College ground,Pune.
  • On 11th January 2005, Mr. Rao Choudhary an experienced cashier of the Bank of Maharashtra delivered a lecture on “Identification of fake currency notes" to students.
  • On 14th February 2005, an essay competition on “Globalization and its impact on Indian economy" was conducted. Mrs. Sandhya Vartak took pains to conduct this competition.
  • The valedictory function was held on 26th February 2005. The chief guest Mr. B.T.Badhan, Joint Director, Sugar,GOM spoke on the “Positive impacts of WTO on the Indian Economy".

Planning Forum activities
 

The following activities were carried out in the academic year 2005-06:

  • The forum was inaugurated at the hands of Dr. Santosh Chandra, Manager, NABARD, Pune on August 18th, 2005. He spoke on "Bio-diesel and the policy adopted by the Government".
  • The 40th Seth Walchand Hirachand Elocution competition was conducted on August25, 2005.
  • Mr. Abhijeet Kulkarni, Research Analyst in Management from Jenas University USA, guided our students on Career opportunities in Management on December 15, 2005.
  • An Essay competition on Human Capital- Perspective and Growth was conducted on January 17, 2006.  Mrs. Sandhya Vartak took pains to conduct this competition.
  • A quiz competition on Indian Economy was conducted on February 2, 2006. Prof S.S. Deshmukh's assistance in conducting this competition was commendable.
  • Dr. Ashutosh Raravikar, Assistant Advisor RBI delivered a lecture on “Indian Economic Scenario-Monetary and Fiscal Policy" on February 4, 2006.
  • The Valedictory function was held on February 17, 2006 at the hands of Vice-Principal Dr. Y.R.Waghmare. He addressed the students and advised them to participate in associations like Planning Forum for their all round development.

  • Lecture by Advocate Subhash Gandhi on “Documentation required for Housing Loan" was organized on 25th September, 2006.
  • On 5th october, 2006 a guest lecture by Mr. Pradeep Srivastava- Sr. Manager Bank of Baroda on the topic " Narsimham Committee II" was organized.
  • Mr. Praveen Chavan - a consultant in competitive Exams guided our B.A. and B.Com students for making a career by appearing for UPSC and MPSC Exams on 2nd February,2007.
  • The 41st Seth Walchand Hirachand Elocution competition was held for college students in which more than 23 students participated. The competition was organized on 25th August,2006.
  • An Essay competition on the topic FDI- its impact on Retail Sector of India was conducted on 20th January, 2007.
  • Mrs. M.M. Satam guided the students of TYB.Com Banking and Finance for preparing projects on various topics related to Banking.
  • Mrs. M.M.Satam and Mrs.S.A.Vartak guided students of Commerce faculty in the activity of Commerce Exhibition organised by the Commerce Association, Modern College on 20th and 21st February,2007.
  • A Workshop was organized by Mrs. V.S.kulkarni for S.Y.B.A. (Economics Special) students for solving numerical problems in Micro Economics.
 
Planning Forum activities
 

The following activities were carried out in the academic year 2006-07:

  • The forum was inaugurated at the hands of Mr. Arun Bhatia, Retired IAS on August 3, 2006. He spoke on " Role of youth in a democratic society".
  • The 41st Seth Walchand Education Competition was conducted on August 25, 2006.
  • An essay competition on FDI- Impact on Retail Sector of India was conducted on January 20, 2007.
  • A mock interview was conducted for the students on January 20, 2007. The panels of judges were pleased to discover bright students of our college from the humanities.
  • Mr. Praveen Chavan, a consultant in competitive exams guided our students on UPSC exams on February 2, 2007.
  • A Quiz Competition on Indian Economy was conducted in the month of January and February. there was overwhelming response from the students.
  • The valedictory function was held on February 10, 2007 at the hands of Dr. Ashutosh Raravikar, Assistant Advisor RBI. He spoke on current Monetary Policy of RBI. Prof. V.S.Kulkarni, HOD Economics, gave a key note address to the students on this occasion. 
 
 Academic  Year 2007-08
 
  • Dr. Mrs.M.M.Satam, H.O.D. felicitated the final year student who have made various achievements in the past five years of their academic career in Modern College on 5th September,2008.
  • Throughout the year, members of the department organized guest lecturers of experts from various fields of Economics, Banking and Finance for the students of B.Com and B.A. classes.
  • Dr.M.M.Satam guided and encouraged the students to prepare presentations on Recent Trends in Banking and Finance through the use of internet.
  • Dr. A.H.Shende organised a visit to Honeybee Research Centre for the students.
  • Alumni' were invited to deliver talks on various subjects and to share their experiences with the present students.
 
Planning Forum activities
 

The following activities were carried out in the academic year 2007-08:

  • The Forum was inaugurated at the hands of Mr. Tushar Thombre, Deputy Collector Solapur on August 30, 2007. He spoke on 'Challenges of Globalisation'.
  • The 42nd Seth Walchand Hirachand Elocution competition was conducted on September 28, 2007.
  • An Essay Competition on 'Farmers Suicide' was conducted on January 30, 2008.
  • Mr. Sangramsingh Nishandar , Dy SP Pune, guided our students on MPSC exam on February 1, 2008.
  • A mock interview especially for students of arts was conducted on February 1, 2008.
  • Ms. Leena Phalak, ex-student of our college, guided our students on 'career in Financial Sector' on February 14, 2008.
  • A field visit to Bee Research Centre, near Agriculture College, Pune was organized n February 15, 2008.
  • A Quiz competition on Indian Economy was conducted on February 20, 2008.
  • The valedictory function was held on February 23, 2008 at the hands of Dr. B.V. Sangvikar, HOD, PUMBA. He spoke on the current economic scenario and also guided our students on entrance exams of MBA. 
 
Academic Year 2008-09 The Department of Economics, Modern College, Shivaji Nagar, Pune – 5, organized a State level Seminar on “Impact of Globalization on Service Sector in India”, on 26th & 27th September 2008. The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. Ashok Kolaskar, Ex-Vice Chancellor, Pune University. Dr. Gajanan Ekbote, Chairman, P.E.Society, Pune, in his discourse on globalization, elucidated the recent developments in service sector, particularly in the field of higher education and the challenges therein. Dr. RS Zunjarrao, Principal, Modern College, Pune-5, delivered the welcome address. Dr. Madhu Satam, HOD, Economics Dept, Modern College, Pune-5, coordinator of the seminar, presented the detailed programme.
 
Total number of participants who attended the Seminar was-41 Teachers and 68 students = 109 participants.
 

Planning Forum activities The following activities were carried out in the academic year 2008-09:

  • The Forum was inaugurated at the hands of Dr. Santosh Dastane, Director Neville Wadia Institute of Management, Pune on August 22, 2008. He spoke on 'Inclusive Growth'.
  • The 43th Seth Walchand Hirachand Elocution competition was conducted on December 30, 2008.
  • An Essay competition on 'The Impact of Global Recession on the Indian Economy' was conducted on January 21, 2009.
  • A mock interview especially for students of Arts was conducted on February 21, 2009. All participants were guided and given tips on interview techniques.
  • A Quiz competition on Indian Economy was conducted on January 30, 2009.
  • Ms. Sonal Gupte, Information Services Consultant, Pune guided our students on Studies Abroad in U.K. on February 5, 2009.
  • A visit to Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Pune was organized on February 13, 2009. Mr.Choudhary of the library section shared information of the Institute for about two hours.
  • The valedictory function was held on February 17, 2009 at the hands of Dr.Shrikant Kamalakar, Reader and Officiating Registrar, GIPE,Pune. He spoke on 'Agrarian crisis and Government Policy'. On this occassion Principal Zunjarrao and Vice-Principal S.S.Deshmukh guided our students.
